Hi Reader
There’s a moment in every transition where the old story stops making sense, but the new one isn’t ready yet.
It’s an awkward middle.
Too far from where you were. Not quite where you’re going.
And even more awkward because there's no language for what’s emerging.
🎭 The Scene
When you’re in that middle space, questions get louder:
What am I now?
How do I introduce myself?
What if I’m changing more than just my job?
Identity shifts rarely happen cleanly. They’re quiet at first - almost secretive - until one day you realize you can’t go back to who you were, even if it would be easier.
💡 Cue the Shift
And here’s the part no one warns you about:
Narrative lags behind identity.
Meaning: you will feel the change before you can explain the change.
If you’ve ever tripped over your words when someone asked, “So, what do you do now?” - that’s why. The language hasn’t caught up yet.
🌱 The Takeaway
If you’re in the “no longer / not yet” part of your story, try this:
Finish the sentence:
“What I’m growing toward is…”
Don’t worry about being precise.
Don’t worry about being impressive.
Don’t worry about being ready.
Just try out words - descriptive ones, etc.
New stories need rehearsal. So, it's time to get to it!
